Apple offers scholarships to WWDC

Apple has announced scholarships to its World Wide Developers Conference, June 5-9 in San Jose, California, for talented students interesting in computer science. WWDC Scholarships reward talented students and STEM organization members with the opportunity to attend this year’s conference. Developers selected for a scholarship will receive a WWDC17 ticket and lodging free of charge. Learn how to apply.

CLASS Jobs Corner: Washington, D.C.-based Leadership Coach

Leading Educators is a national nonprofit deeply committed to ensuring students from low-income backgrounds receive an excellent education. We partner with schools and districts to help highly effective school leaders (e.g., Teacher Leaders, Instructional Coaches, Assistant Principals) develop the skills needed to successfully lead their colleagues. We provide intensive job-embedded coaching, rigorous and engaging professional development, and powerful cohort-based learning experiences. Our goal is to extend the reach and impact of these highly effective leaders, transforming schools and dramatically improving student outcomes.

Leading Educators is seeking a Leadership Coach to be based in Washington, D.C. Leading Educators has partnered with the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) to support their innovative approach to distributed leadership. Leading Educators will support over 400 Teacher Leaders, Instructional Coaches, and Assistant Principals as part of DCPS’s approach to professional learning for teachers, or LEAP (LE arning together to A dvance our P ractice). At its core, LEAP is about creating content-specific learning communities that will engage teachers in a cycle of lesson planning, content knowledge development, formative observations, and student work analysis – all tied to the DCPS curriculum and facilitated by a content-specific leader, called a LEAP Leader. With CLASS’s talented and driven members, we thought this opportunity could be perfect for one of our own.

CLASS Jobs Corner: LA-Based Entrepreneur-in-Residence

The executive search firm Koya Leadership Partners recently circulated information about a Los Angeles-based Entrepreneur-in-Residence at a STEM school.

A California-based Foundation is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial school leader to assess the viability of, and develop the launch plan for, a world-class, nationally renowned, socio-economically diverse public STEM school in downtown Los Angeles. The goal of the STEM school is to provide traditionally underrepresented students access to an exceptional STEM education that prepares them for admission to competitive STEM-focused universities and STEM-focused careers. With CLASS’s talented and driven members, we thought this opportunity could be perfect for one of our own.
